LO1: Developments in web technologies

Technological Change

  • 1993 before Web 1.0 the Nokia 2110
  • spec
  • Make and receive calls
  • SMS
  • small
  • lcd screen
  • pull out Aerial

  • 2007 - iPhone released
  • multi touch
  • big screen
  • no keyboard

Web 2.0
allows the user too be the producer
allowed changes in distribution

wikinomics Tapscott and Williams
  • openess - not only about the standards about the film, everyone knows about the payment
  • peering - replaces the hierarchy - everyone on same level
  • Sharing - less proprietary approach - loads of people can access
  • and acting globally - embracing globalisation ignoring the physical boundaries
  • The use of mass collaboration in business in recent history can be seen as extension of the trend in business to outsource. Externalise formerly internal business functions to other businesses/individuals
  • The difference however is that instead of an organised business body brought into being specifically for unique function, mass collaboration relies on individual agents to come together and cooperative to improve a given operation or solve a problem
How did technological advancements influences the growth of wikinomics?

Technology has improved throughout the years as the internet has become faster through the years as the internet has increased in popularity. This allowed one of the wikinomic concepts to be used regularly, this being the concept "acting globally" This allows people to communicate easily when their are countries apart. The different platforms like social media makes it easier to find people through the world.

Chris Anderson Long tail theory 2006 - sales always continue through the years cause of distribution

products with low sales can become a high sales company because of various distribution methods
example - anchorman didn't do well in 2004 and only took 90 million
dvd did well because of the distribution e.g amazon and social media became popular so people talked about it this creating exposure

Sheffield film competed on iTunes for two weeks with Disney. cost is less and distribution is more.
